Windows warns the first time

The file is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info and then Run anyway. This line goes once the build is signed.

The program writes to two of the game’s files only: x64\audio\sfx\WEAPONS_PLAYER.rpf and RESIDENT.rpf, with a copy of the original beside them.

How it works

Three steps
to sounds in the game.

  1. 01

    Install

Run the installer or the portable exe. The program finds GTA V by itself through Epic Games, Steam or the Rockstar Games Launcher. If it does not, choose the folder with Change folder.

  2. 02

    Pair with the sound editor

The program’s window shows a port and a code. Open the sound editor, press the chip The program in the top bar and type them in, once per browser.

  3. 03

    Put back into the game

Open a sound from the game, change it as usual and press Put back into the game. The program takes a copy and writes the file. Start FiveM and listen.

What the program does

Built to be
undone.

Everything it does on your computer can be taken back, and none of it needs CodeWalker.

  • Backups and restore

Before the first change an untouched copy of the archive is kept beside the original, and before every write a dated copy. Restore original puts the original back and checks that it matches.

  • No CodeWalker

The sound files are read straight out of the game’s archives and written back into the same place. No extracting, swapping and repacking, and no keys.

  • Nothing leaves your computer

The program listens on 127.0.0.1, this computer only, and talks to the sound editor in the browser on the same computer. The sound files go between the two. The one thing that goes out is a question to modfivem.com about the latest version when the program starts.

Limits

What the program
cannot do.

In plain words, so you know before you download.

  • A new sound may not be longer than the original

The file is written back into its old slot in the archive, so it may be the same length or shorter, never longer. The sound editor checks the length before anything is sent and says how many bytes too many it came to. Cut the sound or shorten it.

  • Ten files in RESIDENT.rpf are out of reach

They are stored encrypted inside the archive: ambience, doors, explosions, frontend, melee and a few more. They are greyed out as Locked in the archive. Every weapon sound in WEAPONS_PLAYER.rpf can be reached.

  • Servers with sv_pureLevel 2

The changes apply to your own computer only, and a server with sv_pureLevel 2 refuses changed client files.

  • Story Mode

The Rockstar Games Launcher may restore changed files when Story Mode starts. FiveM does not, so start the game through FiveM.

  • GTA Online

Never play GTA Online with changed files. Restore the originals first.

  • Windows only

The program is for Windows 10 and 11, not for macOS or Linux.
