Custom clothes in FiveM

There are two ways to get custom clothes on a FiveM server. The freemode character wears clothes from clothing packs, and an add-on ped carries its clothes in its own files. This guide is about the second: a ped with exactly the clothes you choose, built in ModFiveM.

Freemode, EUP or your own ped

The freemode characters, mp_m_freemode_01 and mp_f_freemode_01, are the ones players create in the game’s character menu. They wear clothes from packs the server streams, and players pick garments in a clothing menu.

EUP, the Emergency Uniforms Pack, is such a pack: uniforms for police, ambulance and fire services for the freemode character.

An add-on ped is a character of its own with its own files, where the clothes sit in the ped’s own .ydd and .ytd. Players become the ped, for example through vMenu or a script. That is the kind of ped ModFiveM builds and edits.

Dress the ped

  1. Open the ped in the ped editor, or create a new one from scratch.

  2. Press Add clothing and add garments from files, a ZIP or From another ped. The garments are rigged to your ped.

  3. For GTA V’s own clothes, open Catalog with the clothes from a folder on your computer, try the garments on the ped and add them with one click.

  4. Swap variants, move garments between numbers and remove what you do not want. Everything can be undone.

Colours and prints

Every garment has textures you can change in the texture editor: change colours, add a logo or text and make new variants, and see the result on the ped as you work.

Tattoos are placed straight on the skin in tattoo mode.

Keep the ped a sensible size

Many garments with large textures make the ped heavy. If it grows too big it can turn blurry, go invisible or crash for players on the server.

Optimize shows which garments take the most room and makes the textures smaller. Check the ped in Ped check before it goes live.

Onto the server

  1. Press Export and choose FiveM resource. You get a finished resource with fxmanifest.lua, peds.meta and the stream folder.

  2. Put the folder in the server’s resources, add ensure with the ped’s name to server.cfg and restart the server.

  3. Let players become the ped, for example through vMenu, illenium-appearance or a script with SetPlayerModel.
