The ped is invisible or crashes

Most peds that do not show, or that crash the game, have one of a few faults. Ped check finds most of them in a minute, and exporting the ped from PedForge fixes most of them by itself.

Check the ped first

  1. Open Ped check and drop the ped’s resource as a ZIP or a folder. It runs in your browser, and the files are not uploaded.

  2. Read what it lists under Crash risk and Does not work first. Each finding says what is wrong and what it does in the game.

  3. Open the ped in PedForge’s editor, fix what the validation list shows and export it again. The export’s rules fix most crash faults by themselves.

The ped does not spawn

  • The resource is not started. server.cfg needs a line with ensure and the folder’s name, and the server console says when it cannot find or start a resource.

  • The name is not the ped’s. The model name is the one in peds.meta and in the file names: dillen for dillen.ydd.

  • peds.meta is missing or not loaded. fxmanifest.lua must load it as PED_METADATA_FILE, as the resource PedForge exports does.

  • A file is missing. A ped needs its .ydd, .ymt and .yft, and its .ytd for the textures. Ped check names a missing one.

  • The files are for the other edition of the game. Files for GTA V Enhanced do not load on a Legacy server, and FiveM for Enhanced loads a resource’s stream_enhanced folder instead of stream, so a file missing there, such as the .ymt, is missing on Enhanced. The guide GTA V Legacy and Enhanced shows how to serve a ped to both.

The ped spawns but is invisible

  • peds.meta says IsStreamedGfx true. That is freemode’s layout, with a file per garment; a ped packed in one .ydd and one .ytd needs false. Ped check finds it, and the peds.meta PedForge writes says false.

  • Garments have no texture in the .ymt. They show black or not at all, and many servers’ ped checks stop the ped for it.

  • The numbering has a gap. The game shows a category’s garments only up to the gap; the editor’s validation list shows it, and Close numbering gaps closes it.

  • Two resources stream the same ped, or the same file name. The game streams only one of them, and you cannot tell which.

Blurry, green or missing textures

A ped’s textures take memory in the game. FiveM warns about a file over 16 MB, and over 48 MB it says the file will have streaming issues: garments turn blurry, change colour or do not show. Ped check gives each file’s size, and the editor warns when the ped’s .ytd passes 32 MB.

Make the textures smaller with Optimize in the editor and export again.

The game crashes

Crashes come from a few faults in the files: triangles that point past the model, invalid numbers, too many points in one part, broken textures, bones the skeleton lacks and heads without a skeleton of their own. Ped check looks for each of them.

The export’s rules fix them before the files are written, and Show what was fixed in the export lists what they changed. What they cannot fix, the export tells you before it writes anything.

Good to know

If the game crashes when a player switches to the freemode ped, count the server’s clothing packs: the game takes only a few .ymt files for each freemode ped. Ped check notes each pack it sees.

Still stuck

Open the F8 console in FiveM after the ped fails and look at the last lines; a resource or file that does not load is often named there.

Send us the Ped check link, which starts with PF-PK-, and what you see in the game in PedForge’s Discord, and we will help you.
