GTA V Legacy and Enhanced

GTA V comes in two editions for PC, Legacy and Enhanced, and FiveM runs on both. Their model and texture files are not the same. PedForge reads and writes Legacy files; here is how a ped reaches players on either.

Two editions

GTA V Legacy is the edition FiveM has always run on, and most servers still run it. GTA V Enhanced is the newer edition, and FiveM runs on it too.

Enhanced’s .ydd, .ytd and .yft files, and its .ydr and .ypt, are of another version than Legacy’s, so a file made for one edition is not a file for the other. Cfx.re’s converter changes exactly those kinds. It does not convert .ymt or .meta files, so the ped’s .ymt goes along to Enhanced as it is.

What PedForge reads

PedForge reads and writes files for GTA V Legacy. An export is a Legacy resource, with the ped’s files in its stream folder.

When you open a file that may be from GTA V Enhanced, the editor says so instead of opening it, and Ped check marks it the same way. Ped check lists the files in a stream_enhanced folder as not checked, and warns when a file in stream has no copy there.

Serve the ped to Enhanced

  1. Export the ped from PedForge as FiveM resource. Its files are in the stream folder.

  2. Convert the stream folder with Alchemist, Cfx.re’s own converter, which runs on Windows 11: choose Asset Conversion, the stream folder as input and an empty folder as output. It converts the .ydd, .ytd and .yft.

  3. Make a folder named stream_enhanced beside stream, in the same resource, and copy every file from stream into it, the ped’s .ymt too. Then put Alchemist’s converted files in it in place of the copies with the same names.

  4. Restart the server. FiveM for GTA V Enhanced loads stream_enhanced instead of the whole stream folder, so a file left out of it is missing on Enhanced. FiveM on Legacy keeps using stream, so one resource serves both.

Good to know

Without a stream_enhanced folder, FiveM for Enhanced reads stream instead, but Cfx.re calls that deprecated and recommends Enhanced’s files in stream_enhanced.

Warning

Edit the ped in PedForge, and after each export copy and convert its files into stream_enhanced again, the .ymt too. A converted file is an Enhanced file, which PedForge does not open.
