Troubleshooting

Most car problems in FiveM come from a handful of causes. Start with the vehicle check, then find your problem below.

Start with the check

Open the car in ModFiveM and press Check. It checks the seats against the layout, the base model against the _hi model, the memory against FiveM’s limits, the files for damage and the meta files for mistakes, and explains each problem in plain words.

Other players cannot see the car

You can drive the car, but other players see nothing, or see you driving thin air. This is almost always one of three things:

  • The seats and the layout disagree: a seat was removed or added in the model, but vehicles.meta still uses the old layout. Other players’ games cannot build the car.

  • The base model and the _hi model have different seats, because only one of them was edited.

  • The car is oversized: a file over 48 MiB in the game. Other players’ games give up streaming it.

ModFiveM always changes seats in both models and writes a matching layout, and Textures shrinks an oversized car. Open the car, run the check, fix what it finds and export again.

Failed to call inflate()

Errors such as Failed to call inflate() or corruption uncovered mean a streamed file reached the game damaged.

Usually the file was cut short while it was uploaded, or the server handed out an old copy from its cache. One known cause: if polcruiser.yft and polcruiser_hi.yft are exactly the same file and you replace one of them, FiveM’s cache can mix them up.

  1. Upload the files again, whole. If you use FTP, use binary mode.

  2. Stop the server, delete cache/files/polcruiser and start it again.

script_rt textures

Textures whose names start with script_rt are surfaces that scripts draw on in the game, such as screens and dials. They must be stored uncompressed: a compressed one can show up black or crash the game.

ModFiveM never compresses them, and the check warns when a car you open has one that is compressed.

The car does not spawn

  • Check that server.cfg has ensure with the folder’s exact name, and that the server console shows the resource starting.

  • Check that fxmanifest.lua has a data_file line for vehicles.meta. Without it the game does not know the car.

  • Check the spawn name. It is the modelName in vehicles.meta, and it must match the name of the .yft file.

  • A meta file with a typo can stop the whole resource. Open the car in ModFiveM: the check points out broken meta files.

Lights are wrong on another car

If emergency lights flash wrong on a car you did not touch, two cars share a siren ID. Give one of them a free ID, as Sirens and emergency lights describes.

The game crashes when someone gets in

A crash when someone gets in usually means the layout does not fit the model, for example a layout with seats the car does not have. Open the car in ModFiveM and run the check: it compares the layout with the seats in the model.
